Company Research

My first task is to research 15-20 different design companies across all 3 market areas of fashion, interior and paper based. I aim to explore a different company that produces for every one of these areas:

  • Male,Female,Non gender specific.
  • Mass produced,commission based
  • Kids, Young Adult, Mature Adult
  • Public space, Private space
  • Low market, mid market, high end.
  • Organic/environmentally friendly
  • Day wear, evening wear, sportswear.
  • Smaller independent company

London Trip Plans..

On Wednesday, 5th October there are plans for a coach trip to London for research and exhibitions. I am very happy about this as i have been thinking about 2 current exhibitions that id like to visit at the moment.


First i’d like to visit Björk Digital at Somerset House, An ‘immersive virtual reality exhibition’ of digital works and collaborations with worldwide visual artists and programmers. Although this doesn’t relate to any of my current studies i am really interested in Björk as an artist and I’m hoping to learn more about her and be inspired by this digital experience.


I’m also hoping to visit the Undressed exhibition at the V&A which explores the ‘intimate relationship between underwear and fashion and its role in moulding the body to a fashionable ideal, with cut, fit, fabric and decoration revealing issues of sex, gender and morality’.
I have been thinking about my dissertation a lot recently and i am planning on involving it on the subjects of fashion, the female form, sexuality, gender ect! So this exhibition will be perfect and I’m hoping to get as much information as possible from it.

Thursday, 22nd September 2016.

Its almost the end of September again and after a very long break i am more than ready to start my second year in Textiles! – (again). Although the brief for module ADZ5777 Subject ‘Making connection’s the same as i attempted last year, i am excited to give it another go with a fresh mind and a new year ahead of me. I aim to prioritise on improving on my attendance, to ask more questions and to get more involved.
This brief is about finding out who we are as a designer. Im looking forward to exploring this as i do not yet know what kind of designer i aspire to be, what commercial design market interests and attracts me the most or what my skills and strengths are so far. This module will be about exploring and experimenting in all ways and i am hoping that by the end i will feel more confident as a designer.
To start we should research  at least 15 to 20 different companies across all 3 market areas of fashion, interior and paper based. I am unsure as to whether i should use last years research or to have a fresh start. A highlighted section on a the brief explains that we must consider each companies stance on ethical issues, environmental awareness, recycling programmes and sustainability intentions. I think this could be interesting to research worldwide companies based on these issues.
